How Can I Help?
This committee is made up of volunteers just like you. We are not experts. We have families, jobs, and
lives. However, we are concerned enough to take steps to build awareness and improve understanding
on the issues we are all now facing. JMDCA hopes that for this short period of time you will choose
to get involved. We know you each are busy, but without your help, we will not be able to influence
what is built or not built here in Jefferson.
What you can do to help
- File your concerns with FERC
- Read the transcript from the Middletown Scope Meeting:
- Use our to post questions, raise issues, and share ideas.
- Sign up and participate in the discussions so that we can show representatives and Dominion that we are a large and strong community
- Attend the Scope Meeting
- This is not a place to ask questions, but this is your chance to hear for yourself from Dominion Transmission Inc. what they what to build in our community.
- FERC will be there to hear comments from community members to be sure this is the best location for this compressor station.
- This meeting is open to the public, the proceedings are recorded, and a transcript of the meeting will be made available by FERC.
- Ask your neighbors to attend the meeting and become involved as well.
- The more people that show up the better shot we have in demonstrating to Dominion that we are a STRONG community and that we will not just sit by and watch this project happen.
- Sign up to voice your concerns at the Scope Meeting.
- Sign up to speak at the meeting. Your comments become part of the official record and are taken under consideration by FERC when making their final decision
- Only 2-3 minutes are allotted to each speaker and comments can be read from prepared notes.
- Write your county commissioners and other elected officials and FERC and let them know your concerns about this project
- Make sure that all letters are posted via the FERC website or mailed directly to FERC so that it gets officially recorded with our docket number.
- Contact info for local, state, and federal officials plus local newspapers.
- Look at what Dominions track record is, how their facilities operate, and make your own
conclusions. Are you sure you want a large compressor station less then a mile from our
elementary school or within zero to three miles of your largest investments - your family and your home.
- Do an Internet search of this topic and see for yourself.
Google:
- Volunteer to pay for or make signs and put them up in your yard letting everyone know your
concerns and how to get to this website for more info.
- Become involved, however you can. If you just sit back and think everyone else will fix this
potential problem, we will lose our ability to impact this project. We need everyone involved.
